it was actually quite nice out, so i think there was a fine layer of water ontop of the ice which helped it reflect so well. this is the full panorama, i'll post a crop out of it tommorow
"A piece of toast with butter always lands butter side down, and a cat always lands on its feet. What happens if a piece of toast is tied butter side down to the back of a cat? Does it perpetually hover above the ground in indecision when dropped?"
yep, this is a panorama of 4 horizonal pictures, i took it on the little 'hike' which was hardly even a stroll where we went down to the frozen lake (its like 6 or 7 hundred yards) and this is probably about halfway inbetween calgary and canmore as its just under an hours drive west from calgary (with good roads which were not the case). i've hiked up the mountains you see in the picture, and can clearly see calgary, and cochrane from there.
Great image Carl. There's a heck of a lot of black in this image, but it really sets off the subject matter well. The yellow lights in the clouds work well too.
Lovely shot - professional quality. Too bad Caedes doesn't have an upload option for different-aspect pictures. What do you use to stitch your photos together?
i use the photomerge thing in photoshop. i've used the trial of PTassembler, and that was great, but i just use photomerge to kinda line the pictures up, keep the layers, then manually go through and line them up perfectly, and blend them. as long as its constrained to a single row of pictures that method works without any flaws, just a fair chunk of time
I'm really into goth rock and new wave. My favorite band is The Birthday Massacre. The guy in my avatar is, in fact, a guy. His name is Mana from the band Malice Mizer.
Canon has a product called Photostitch that does a really nice job of stitching photos together seamlessly. As far as I know, it only is bundled with canon digital cameras, but works with any photos in common formats. http://panoramas.dk has a lot of panoramic views that use this software to stitch them together, which also allows you to save the panoramas as Quicktime VR.
gah, i hate photostich, i've used it, and it really does a crappy job, and you end up fixing the seams in photoshop later anyways, not to mention you lose a load of detail. also you can only use pictures with all the same size (so you cant edit beforehand at all) and only saves jpg at high compression if i remember correctly. PTassembler is the best from what i used, but doing it manually if you dont have too many pics is good too
Thanks for the leads on what you use - I'll try them. I had the same problems you did in Photostitch until I selected the correct lens setting. Now it does a better job that Photoshop does. I'll have to see what PTassembler will do. Have a great day!
I like this. I really like long narrow images. The framing is well done and even though the main subject is in the center of the image it works well in this image. Usually the main subject has more impact if it is off center. Well done and thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful pic. I like that you've added the border - I think it contrasts the picture very well. I love the colours and the reflections. A great panorama shot.
