A great example of one of them crazy trees that think that a good spot to grow is out the side of a rock. Pictures like this must make gardeners nuts. Anyways, i really like this one as i have told you in the past. From the sparkle in the snow to the lighted up mountian, to the odd tree really make an awesome shot. Also it is about time you post 2 pictures in one month.
"A piece of toast with butter always lands butter side down, and a cat always lands on its feet. What happens if a piece of toast is tied butter side down to the back of falling cat? Does it hover above the ground in perpetual indecision?"
Absolutely fabulous! Gosh so many great photos appeared recently. The composition could not be better. There are so many interesting objects in the photo. Nice colour palette and the image is cristal clear. Thank you for sharing.
I don’t think your crazy, not when you get photos like this one. It’s sharp, it’s clear, the colours are good and it’s interesting. What more could you ask for?
As others have said the colour and focal clarity are excellent here the composition rounds the whole package off very well. If I can be the one voice of dissent it would be my all-time bug bear about level horizons…. :-)
Great shot, it seems you've captured everything that I like in one shot! The scene on the right is very interesting with the snow, the tree makes a great focal point, the view is really nice too, nice work! The lighting is really good to, good work on this! This is going into my favorites!
thankyou for all the response, this picture took quite a bit of work to get to posting quality because in the origional raw (because of the intense light conditions) the sky was somewhat washed out, the tree was almost silhouetted, the snow was too dark for snow, and had a nasty tint to it. i think this shot is a perfect example of where raw file shooting is invaluable, it can make the subtle changes that let an image look origional yet fix the problems with a shot that a naked eye doesnt see
I agree with the others about the lovely photo. It's excellent. I'm insterested in the location - I see a lake and signs of humanity in the background. Where was this shot?
Great shot... love the way you have the sun hitting the rock making it feel warm but on the otherside is the snow in the shade making it feel cold... beautiful shot...
this was taken most of the way up Mt Yamnuska, its the big rock face that you see in the front of the mountains when you drive the #1 from calgary to banff (canada)
I like the rugged look. It makes me think of the bonsai and the trees and their settings that are copied. I also likethe way it follows the sweep of the mountian up.
Gotta giva 10! This is one of those images that certainly does deserve a "zen" rating. A few minutes of contemplation can lighten a whole day. The textures and lighting are superb. In the foreground, the snow sparkles with back scattered light. In the cool shadows, the lone tree claws its way upward from the snow to reach the light. The rock face basks in the sun while overlooking an arid plain that leads to a lake. This image draws you into its tremendous depth.
i did use a flash, if you look closely on the right the snow is quite sparkley, and much better lit than it was in reality. also, this is shot at 18mm, so the tree was actually about 10-15 feet away, which is an awful long way to flash fill in bright daylight.
also, i've already brightened it as much digitally as i could get away with, if you're really picky, i think you can see some of the marks i left in the 1600x1200
You are just outstanding on your scenery photos..and this is one that shows it..I love the idea of a "Zen" tree...just that word makes me think of peace and meditation of course...so this is a wonderful photo..so filled with many wonderful thoughts. My mind can go on and on with it and travel the world just by this one photo..VERY nice..verena
