There are over 600 species of eucalypts in Australia all with distinctive features including their bark which they shed every year. Note the contrast of the rough tree in the foreground with the smooth black and white trunks in the background.

Frank, I know that birds moult periodically and that certain animals, such as snakes, molt too, but I wasn't aware that Eucalypts do something similar.
Your fine photograph clearly shows this phenomenon.
One is never too old to learn, 😁 . Thanks for the lesson!

Laugh Kookaburra, Laugh Kookaburra . . . .
I do know eucalyptus is a genus while gum trees are species :) Love the white trunks !

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

If I had my druthers, Frank, I'd choose the ones in the background, half because of the lovely black and white character and half because we can't see any crude hearts carved into them from this distance. I'm sure, though, that I would get an argument on that from Clarence + Cora.
