....by some quirk of the imagination, I thought I was in Athens for a moment! ;) ...the Acropolis, also known as the National Monument is situated on top of Calton Hill in the centre of Edinburgh city - sometimes referred to as 'Athens of the North'. I walked up the hill on Tuesday, it was my birthday by the way, and I was just happy because of where I was and the sun was shining too and what a reward when I got to the top - the views around the city were amazing! The monument, which was built in 1822, was designed as a replica of the facade of the Parthenon in Athens a year after Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo, and was in commemoration of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Napoleonic wars.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another fish!!!
I was as a kid in Greece and saw the Acropolis. It looks fantastic when you are in the city, but as closer you come, as more you see, how old it is. And when you are there, it feels like a lot of stones. This one looks amazing from close also. So congratulations again to your b-day and to this great shot.

Great shot of a piece of history.....I believe this is 'related' to our 'Penshaw Monument'..same design and built at the same time!...in a similar kind of area!...

Good post my dear!
