This is a little known part of Colorado and one of least visited parts of the state. For that I am grateful. There is a 23 mile road that encircles the park. The elevation of the road is about 6,000 feet and the floor of the monument is 4,700 feet so you are looking at a 1300 feet drop from where this image was captured. The monolith rising from the canyon floor is named Independence Monument. Just one of the many spires found in this magical setting.

Another of those beautiful places you seem to have in your mountains. I miss the mountains so much. This gives a little back to me.

Magical is right - what a gloriously expansive view. I love shots of canyon country, especially when the colours of the rock are highlighted by contrast with snow. This is bound for the permanent collection :)

I hold it true that thoughts are things; They're endowed with bodies, breath and wings: And that we send them forth to fill the world with good results, or ill. That which we call our secret thought speeds forth to earth's remotest spot, leaving it's blessings or it's woes like tracks behind it as it goes. We build our future, thought by thought for good or for ill, yet know it not. Yet so the universe was wrought . Thought is another name for fate. Choose then thy destiny and wait, for Love brings Love and Hate brings Hate. - Henry Van Dyke.

The snow just makes this come alive. I admire how you flowed the picture into the background...the patterns of shaped and tones in the background and the narrow band of clouds give the whole thing a richness you could not have gotten without just a fore- and middle-ground shot. Looks like a square format...was this a Hasselblad?

4x5 eh? Wow, I'd love to see the detail from that up close. Bet it is way richer than anything the PC can convey. While I like the convenience of digital and the DSLR format is getting better all the time, I still think of 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 and 4x5 as the "real" landscape photo formats.

Looking over the rock formations to the "Grids" way off in the background and then back to the bushes with the snow and back to the rocks is a long journey and all work together so well. What a magnificent image Bob.

This is a very confusing photo, the rock looks so close, but also very far away at the same time. And the air is so clear, you can see kilometres away from this point. I am looking at this photo for a few days now, and it doesn't tire at all, there is more to see every day. I just love this photo. Please make more beauties like this one.

When I saw this in the top 6 featured images I thought this was of a coastline. The snow looked like seafoam splashing high in the air. It wasn't until I read "Colorado" that I realized I needed to see this in its full size.

Great work.

Whew! What a view. There is a lot of pixels (detail) in this booger. It took forever to download.
Unreal in color, contrast and depth of field. The dusting of snow just caps everything off. A perfect composition. Pat
