I love black & white film photography! The tonal values that you can create are still unbeatable. This old tree with it's wonderful shape caught my eye as my friend Carl and fellow photographer, (lower left in the image), and I were photographing some swampland. Sadly, the area was drained soon after to build apartment houses.

I'm with Joost. This is absolutely marvelous. Love the black and white.. So awful what mankind does to nature. At least you have captured it's beauty before humans got to it, and was kind enough to share it with us.

It was a great idea to include Carl in this shot Bob. With him the size of this massive tree is known. GREAT choice of matte colour.

What a majestic tree. I agree that it was neat to leave one of the photographers in for scale. Really well framed. In the thumbnail view, I thought it was a snowy tree. :-) you're right about what the reduction in colors adds!

I have to agree with the others, the scale of the tree is appreciated by including your friend. I like the pinkish tone, was that deliberate or a result of age. It gives a lovely delicate feel to the image.

Good morning Robert
I am reminded of the opening words to a song sung by a group caled Doggeral Bank:
"Primroses are blosoming...
Somewhere."
A beautiful old tree. To our children's children, there are many things that will be a memory in images only, and this is one of them. Beautifully captured, and I think colour would have spoiled it.
Enjoy your day

I love it, Bob. Black and White has broken through at Caedes! This looks really beautiful with the contrasts and the "V" shape of the tree-trunk. I still say, when you want to capture shapes - go with B&W. Good Capture.

Lovely shape and balance in the tree. Interesting shade on the foliage...was this IR film?

I'm wondering the same thing Mike is about infrared. If not then it seems to be a really sun drenched day with light colored foliage, your choice in the color tone of framing emphasizes the lightness of the greens and really brings out the structure of the dark trunk. Anyway, it's a majestic tree and deserves to have it's portrait here.
