Mt. Yale (right) is another of the collegiate Peaks. As I mentioned, in an earlier post. Cottonwood trees are very difficult to capture. This image was made about two minutes after the Mt. Princeton one. As you can see the sun was not at the proper angle to highlight the trees so they take on this dull color.. It still makes for an interesting image. Comments Please.

I didn't understand what you meant about the difficulty of photographing the cottonwood trees until looking at the difference between this picture and the previous one! What a difference a couple of minutes make. I still like this photo, the expanse, great clouds. Thank you for your wonderful explanations, they really make your pictures come alive.

I see what you mean about the difference in the sun and the color, Robert, but nevertheless, you've achieved another great capture of both the trees and the beauty of the surrounding area and skies...a marvellous view and shot.:Pat.

I went back & looked at your Mt. Princeton photo & compared the two & I see what you mean about the difference in color, but I have to say this is still a wonderful photo. Somehow, it's just right. If you look from the color of the dull grass, to the slightly brighter trees to the really bright blue sky, it's all consecutive in shading & it works extremely well.

I see what you are saying, but it still is a fantastic image.. Photographs are supposed to show the viewer what you see.. To help them understand the beauty, of the area you are photographing.. No one I know, does that better than you and Annie.

We should all aspire to be as "dull" as these cottonwoods

and just because the cottonwoods featured in Mount Princeton and Cottonwood Trees have a better agent, drives a Mercedes ... and has enough collagen injections to make a Ubangi cheiftan jealous with envy .. just shows they were probably born with a cottonwood spoon in their mouth

Sheeeesh ... people are so .. so ... appearence centric these days

Not me though ... I always enjoy seeing Colorado's splendor ... Thanks

The rockies always produced the best clouds .. I live, currently, about 50 miles east of the pacific ocean\san francisco bay .. and clouds are at one level plane (about face level, usually .. LOL) ... not the "God was bored and decided to rearrange to furniture" disarray you find in your backyard

The difference that everybody spotted so easily lies in the sun. It is not only the cottonwood, sun light changes everything. One single sun beam can animate the dullest image. Nevertheless I like your image very much. Thank you.

Old friends, they mean much more to me than a new friend, cause they know where you are and they know where you been?

Hi Bob. I've finally had some time to view all four of your Cottonwood images. I am normally one to push for color and contrasts so I hope it does not make me an oddball that I prefer this one a bit over the others though you've received my vote on all. I still see plenty of pleasing tones and wonderful contrasts in this. I like the peaceful feeling this one gives me. I also love the range from the tall grasses back to the Mountains. Much to view and appreciate.

I hold it true that thoughts are things; They're endowed with bodies, breath and wings: And that we send them forth to fill the world with good results, or ill. That which we call our secret thought speeds forth to earth's remotest spot, leaving it's blessings or it's woes like tracks behind it as it goes. We build our future, thought by thought for good or for ill, yet know it not. Yet so the universe was wrought . Thought is another name for fate. Choose then thy destiny and wait, for Love brings Love and Hate brings Hate. - Henry Van Dyke.

The foreground grasses in this composition are so real I find myself walking thru them. Their colors are so natural. Love those aspens. Good detail in the mountains. Great color.
