Last year we did not have a single pelican. I guess that I took them for granted because they were always there in the winter, but last year not a single one came. We have about 50 right now. Hooray!!!
Wow what a great looking photo with stunning light and colours and beautiful angle you took the shot from too. What a great feeling it must have been when they returned for you my friend. Also i must say the detail in this photo is second to none, great looking capture.
Beautiful bird and an equally beautiful capture of one. We have huge flocks of them here in North Dakota, by the tens of thousands, but they're best seen in small groups or individually. One of my favorite experiences is to find a spot where they regularly fly over, close to the ground prior to landing, and listening to the whistle of air through their wings. I like the fact that you got this one just before he hits the water, his reflection telling us just how close he is to doing so. At first I thought that maybe you could have removed the head of that loon(?) on the far bottom right to clean up the image, but then I realized it adds an audience to the image and, again, let's us see how close the pelican is to landing. Nice work, as always. Merry Christmas.

Love the angle of the landing. They look so big to be able to make some of the movements they manage. Wonderful timing with excellent details. I am anxious to see some this winter. I have only seen a few flying over, not sure where they are congregating this year.
Magnificent action capture Garrett, looks like he needs to straighten out his approach, lol. Fabulous image and it's nice to hear they have returned to your area
