The brilliant color of a hummingbird's throat is created by structural coloration. Meaning that light passing through a thin layer of the feather is bent creating the iridescent color. When the light does not strike the feather at the right angle there is no color or black. The green of the body feathers is created by bending light as well.

I've only seen hummingbirds when their tiny wings are flapping at breakneck speeds. I like the simplicity and detail in this shot, Garrett. Center frame works beautifully.

The beak is crystal clear...almost looks like a nail up close! His eye shows quite an expression. What a beautiful portrait of this little bird. Nice one.
