The more I get into this nature photography the more I am appreciative of the beauty of it. If I can be presumptious to say this Female Cardinal's striking colors confirms it...Of course it helps to have bright sun to get good expousure. I used my 70-300 lens set at 260mm. Shutter was set at 1/2000 and aperture set at f/5.6. ISO 800

Oh Gerry, this is an absolutely fabulous capture. Perfect, and the blurred background makes her stand out even more.

One of your best Gerry ... the clarity in this is remarkable ... and the light you caught her in ... just perfect. It brings out all the subtle nuances of color that the female has but are so rarely seen normally. A GREAT CAPTURE my friend ... Thanks for this favorite.

This is your niche. Such a beautiful bird deserves to be on Caedes. Good job!

Wow, Gerry. I don't think I've ever seen such a presentation of a female cardinal quite like this. Between the contrasts of the sharp focus and blurred background and the red of the bird and the blue and brown of the background, this bird really jumps out at you. This one's gotta go in my favs.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Another winner - how I would love to see a real cardinal - but this will suffice for now - very beautiful and presented by you so perfectly.

Honestly, you could sell these. I know there are a lot of people who bird watch and take amateur photos. This is not amateur. These are all very well done. The male was equally well done. This being the less colorful of the pair, doesn't make this picture any less impressive. I hope you enjoy doing this and I hope you continue to post them.

Dang! What a capture and what a score. I think that is the highest I have seen. It deserves it. The bird, it's colors, detail and focus is perfect. This is a keeper. Congrats!

Splendid capture. I've seen lots of cardinals but never appreciated the intensity of color in the reputedly "drab" female until now. Great composition and the blurry background sets her off beautifully.

What a beautiful little bird! We don't have very pretty birds here in N. CA. The only birds that have any color to them are bluejays.

I'm with PJ, with an ISO that high I'd have expected much more noise. This is one of your best yet Gerry. Never seen one and not likely to in the UK so thankyou so much for sharing this with us.
Cheers,
Steve.
