This is the Cabbage White...a small butterfly...very common in Spring and early Summer. My field guide says they were introduced to North America from Europe around mid 1800's. As name implies they are a pest to cabbage as well as other vegetable plants.

Beautiflly captured Gerry - another fine shot.
I attended an outdoor wedding in the summer - there was a mass of blue flowers and millions of cabbage whites fluttering aroung them - a most wonderful sight, so although they are a pest to cabbages they are still beautiful.

If they eat that much cabbage I would guess they have a lot of gas. I don't know what mileage they get. Just a beautiful photo and framing. Another topnotch post Gerry.
