When I was a child, a long time ago, I do recall playing with other kids and that it was said if a Ladybug landed on you it meant good luck. Well I don't know if kids still say that. I have noticed in last few years there is a new strain of Ladybug here in North America that takes a bite out of you...they certainly did not do that when I was a kid.

There are so many legends connected with Ladybirds (Bugs to you) I always think of them as harbingers of good luck as well.
Not so for the aphids though - they love to eat them, so I am always pleased to see them around the roses.

We have orangeish in color false ladybugs here. From what I could gather, they were imported to the US in the 60s without thought of lack of natural predators, and they're not so very ladylike. And they do BITE!
The old-fashioned red ones are the ones that I look for! They're the ones with the manners! LOL

What do they call a male ladybug? That question has haunted me for years. This is such a great shot Gerry. I too thought it was lucky since childhood but now they run in packs like wolves.

its a great close up! but ladybug its not. asian beetle bug introduce in north america to control aphids, common misconception with the friendly ladybug... and yes they bite! unlike the common 7 spotted red lady bug as you & i knew in childhood. i remember that was said also, they land on you its good luck. brings back good memories. regardless of what bug it is you did a great job!
