As a WWII scholar, Ted, I have a real fascination and appreciation of this plane, The Lockheed P38F Lightning. A fighter, designed in 1942, the Lightning had a range of 1,425 miles, a maximum speed of 395 mph, and could climb to 39,000 feet. It could carry 2,000 pounds of bombs and fired a 20mm cannon and 4 machine guns which, in the case of this particular Lightning, Lt. E.C. Ethell used to shoot down five nazi planes.
