With it being the most famous art museum on the planet, many people forget that for centuries the Musee du Louvre was the palace of the French kings. They really overdid themselves when it came to making the building special (and spending money on it, no doubt, which lead to the French Revolution). These are two of four columns holding up a stone balcony inside one of the wings of the place. And how about that smile between the fruit on the back wall? Paris, France; September, 2015.

Gee whiz... it must have been a chilly day? The detail here is amazing in its amount and complexity. I'm sure scenes like this were a constant reminder of the inequity between the peasants' dirt floors and the opulence of the royals' surroundings, far beyond even the distance between the "1%" and the rest of the people, here in the U.S. I have a feeling that smile on the wee lass is due to all the richness surrounding her, topped by a double-trumpeting winged cherub, enjoying the company of a pair of apparently tame snakes. Perfect for Lyn's challenge. S&F.

Happy Trails

Amazing statue work and photo work as well. :) I agree with Nik it looks like it was cold when they had models for that sculpting. And that's not a bad thing for realism.

This really is an exceptionally well detailed photo - well done indeed.
Amazing sculpture and more amazing when the fact that they were created in the early 16th Century is taken into consideration.(Jean Goujon was the sculptor)
I shall place this on the waiting list for next Wednedsay's BWC - thank you Ted.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
