After taking this shot, I got a little more up close and personal with several of the items inside the shed, these bridle bits and spurs being one such instance. Fort Rock Museum, Fort Rock, Oregon US.

Ted, your narrative has made me curious, with the result that I've check-out this link.

The interior of the shed of the horse shoer tells more than a book can do.

Thanks for this interesting and fine post!

Can you imagine having to bite down on and wear one of those torture devices? Ugh!

The oil slick color variation of the aging patina of the metals is absolutely gorgeous! I spent a long time studying the image and admiring those colors. Just beautiful!

The texture detail throughout is also sensational.

I think you could have better capitalized on this image with a tighter crop though, Ted. I enlarged it slightly and cropped out the sides, focusing only on the board holding the bits and spurs. And it became a genuinely powerful and truly spectacular wallpaper.

I am so in awe of your incredible talent. And I love that you take us along on your adventures. I follow along willingly ... no bit, reins, or spurs necessary! :)

I tried the same experiment as Lisa (questjester) and I like it, too. Then again, I'm always looking for the photo within a photo. There's a lot of history in this image, with lots of different styles and timelines for these pieces, just like on your linked photo. I'm not always a great fan of HDR but you handle it very nicely, with just the right touch.
