It was very windy at the top of this hill when I snagged this shot. The Columbia River flows from its headwaters in British Columbia,Canada, through Washington state and then along the Washtington-Oregon border to the Pacific Ocean. It's one of the major waterways used by the Lewis & Clark expedition to map out major parts of the US during its earlier years. The Columbia River bar into the Pacific is one of the more dangerous bars shipping has to deal with on the planet. Now to find that Goonies house...Astoria, Oregon, US.

And that peninsula seen in the far left of center is (I believe) the one that Lewis and Clark traveled past, eventually building Fort Clatsop several miles out-of-frame to the left. Like Fort Mandan in my state (North Dakota), Fort Clatsop was named after a local Indian tribe. Being very familiar with ours, I do have this spot on my bucket list to visit someday. I'm retired now but I will always have an interest in geography and history. This shot, with the inclusion of this dramatic cloudscape, really shows the extent of the mouth of the Columbia. I'm guessing you took this photo in the heights above Point Ellice? On Google maps (terrain) I can see a road winding its way up, looping back and forth, and an open dirt parking area free of trees, due north of McGowan (beach?), that might be close to you point of perspective. Whatever the case, it's a spot I could sit for a long time, studying the confluence and the human impact on the area.

The depth in this one is so darn good, and the moody sky just adds a superb element to this already very nice image, and the composition is spot on. tigs=^..^=

If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera. ~Lewis Hine The Earth without art is just 'eh'.
