The work of art may have a moral effect, but to demand moral purpose from an artist is to make him ruin his work. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - 1832)

I like this. The only critical thing would be that under live discussion, it's a little hard to read. I really like the colors though and the overall design.

Nice design, but does not provide for expandability. What happens when someone expands one of the Galleries for subcategories; what if more Navigation links are added; what if more Users are online than the bottom rock can hold. And then the jagged placement of the text of the users. That would be a pain to code because it would have to know when to wrap, and then you would have to set each line at a certain indentation. The beginning of each line wouldn't be so hard, but the end of each line would be a pain since websites are designed in rectangles.

Also, the page cant lengthen based on that design, because the rocks are the whole left side of the layout. You would have to use a few IFRAMES and then viewing a person's gallery would be rather limiting.

However, for the design itself. Very original, nice colors and would work with something that doesn't have exapandability and large content issues.

hmmm well i see the galleries expanding as as popup menu's when activated with mouse...... i can see where your comming from with the expandablity issue on the left hand menu rocks.. i think in this instance i'll just have to be disapointed that the visual looks i like are just too hard to impliment... but the page can lengthen, or at least it can if what i visually imagine can be easily coded!.. heres a link to see the page as it would appear on a full 21 image gallery page...HERE...is that what you were talking about?

lol.. i just seem to be able to do some nice designs for non-caedes sites..oh well :D

Yes, that would definitely be reasonable, your expanding idea for the content area. I wasn't thinking about one option CSS layers. However, from what SamGerdt has told me, caedes is pretty much ruling out major CSS scripting. It would take layers to do what you want, unless there is another way I am unaware of, but I am pretty sure that's the only way. And I'm not 100% sure about the CSS, but I would understand why caedes wouldn't want to.

I also didn't think of a popup menu (even though I'm currently working on one for a site *duh* lol). But that would definitely work too.

One more suggestion, if the content area is bordered by pink, please make it red...lol.

I love it, it's what we need to bring the flat 2d internet to life. No flash embedded as an optical assault weapon and the shadow's a nice touch, gives it life. I think it would make a great portal. If those are all links on the big martian rock ... tasty! I doubt you'd want to use layers in your mark up, though, doesn't seem like the kind of page that needs to do much scrolling. I agree it would be a job coding the left margin to adhere to the shape of the rock but it's do-able. I'd heartily suggest using an external style sheet, though. None the less, wonderful work! It's eye fetching innovation that makes the ride on the super info highway a splendid journey.
