Hi everyone, when crossing the Mackinaw Bridge last Friday going down to Bay City, Michigan to work at a skating competition. I had my husband take some shots out of the window of some of the Blue Ice piling up on the lake. But at traveling 72.2km/45mph it was hard getting good shot with all the poles. There was some closer to shore where it stood up over 6.1meters/20ft high which we didn't get.

I know it's not the best but there is a lot of texture, lol.

Thanks for coming by also comments are most welcomed.

Have a great day, ♥ Skates

I didn't know much about blue ice so this is very informative to me. Nature just shows out. Thanks for sharing it, Pat.

It was summer when I crossed the Big Mac so I didn't see any ice but I have seen and heard of blue ice before. It's created by freezing water that has so much pressure applied to it, down deep, that all the air bubbles are squeezed out of it and the ice crystals enlarge, making the ice appear blue. It is hard to actually see the blue ice here but I also know that can be put down to having to take photos at speed. For sure-fire blue you would have had to stop on the bridge for a supported capture and I know they tend to frown on people stopping on that bridge, for any reason. Still, Pat, worth the attempt, shooting through the poles.

I've seen blue ice in shots from Alaska before Pat but I had read it was happening at Mackinaw - very interesting and very cold looking.

No wonder Trump decided not to impose tariff on Canada, Skates. They can't get anything there anyway. :) Just kidding.
Great shot and link. Stay warm.

Beautiful but Brrrr! Blue ice is new to me too. I have seen so many witty "descriptions" about Canada from you but you never said "we color the ice blue in Canada" :) :)
