This young lad visits us about once a week. It’s one of our grand old Birch trees which is in front of the main door to the house. We can walk by him and even touch the tree while he’s sampling the gourmet meal in each hole he had produced the week before. The Tree looks as if someone shot it with a shotgun and yet it is still strong and vibrant. Go Woody!

He's quite beautiful, Joe. That has to be one delicious tree! lol ~~~"He's up each morning bright and early, to wake up all the neighborhood. To bring to every boy and girly, his happy serenade on wood.~Hear him pecking out a melody, Peck, peck, pecking at the same old tree. He's as busy as a bumblebee, all day long." (Just an old song I heard my momma sing). lol

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Great background on this one. I feel sorry for the tree!! And especially since it's right in front of your house. There are two ancient, tall birch trees that have stood in front of my house forever, and I'm always worried about them crashing down on the house, so perhaps I'm projecting a bit!!

I love to watch the birds and they habits...you've a find looking specimen here!!

~found in voting booth and had to comment~

A Red-breasted Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus ruber), how cool!! I'd never seen one of these before, thanks!!

Sapsuckers are odd woodpeckers that drill rows of "sap wells" in bark, then return to drink the oozing sap. They tend to be quiet, sluggish and rather tame. Let's see some more of this fella!!
