Help! does anyone know what kind of bug this is. I didn't know he had wings under his hard shell until i got in close on him, he looked so prehistoric when he had them open. I don't think he could have gotten off the ground with them though , he was to big.

Terrific capture and an exceptionally clear macro. It looks to be an agentis hollywoodis.

Fantastic little critter! I think it might be the dreaded lawyeris sleazea, a close cousin of the agentis hollywoodis.

If you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos, then you probably haven't completely understood the situation.

A neat looking beetle and cool shot. Unusal to get a shot of one with it's wing covers lifted like that.
I believe it is a Agentis Musicalla, a species that lacks the ability to produce their own mating calls, so they herd younger beetles of a different species to learn and produce the Agentis Musicalla's mating call for them, which brings in all the young fertile female beetles for miles around. :c)

Nice job. I can't figure out how you got the ring around him though. Was he in some kind of plastic dish?

Great Picture!
I would say this is a "Gelbrandkäfer". But I'm not shure. And...I don't know what it is called in English.

Excellent shot. Crispy sharp, well composed, good color. One of those artful takes where the object having parts outside the picture has an enhancing effect.

I believe you have a diving beetle there, family Dytiscidae.
