Your use of partial lighting here works for me. I never thought about it, but the way the light comes in from the right of the frame forces the viewer to peer into the darkness on the left. I also like the red highlights you left for us. It gives a warmth to the image that couteracts the deserted appearance of the cabin.
Wow, there are some lovely tones here. The harsh light on the floor clashes with the otherwise gentle tones. Overall it’s a powerful thought-provoking image. I like it.
This is really nice Joseph. I love the lighting especially the harshness on the right. I think that's where the mood of this shot comes from. Like Reg my eye was also drawn to the dark side looking for something to be there hiding. LOL imagination is either on overdrive this morning or I have had too much coffee. Nice capture.
Thanks everyone.Tracy is right about the natural light.I turned the flash off and shot through the window when I saw the contrasting light. It is almost like a meter for light from light to dark. That is what attracted me to the scene.

I love the mood from shots like this. It's such a solitary, minimalist feeling. the setting seems simple but it's full of age and texture, and painted with lovely light.
Didn't notice this last night. One of your best...very subtle lighting, tonal gradations and good detail in the darker areas. I really like how the patch of sun on the floor balances the light from the window. Having the table at a slight angle also works very well to balance the straight lines and square corners elsewhere. 10 from me, and you got the good comments from some decent photographers. Ignore the score!
That would be ok as long as you don't lose the light on the floor mon ami.I'm always for an odd strength of focus if it adds to the composition.

"... and shot through the window when I saw the contrasting light. It is ... ."
Am I to understand from your comment that you shot this through a window??
Oh ... my ... word.
Forget my 'constructive' thoughts. I was so hoping for just that little more detail of what lay in the shadows. I satisfied my curiosity by vewing the image at a higher resolution ... and considering the constraints with which you did take this image ... I will let my imagination fill in the rest ... and that is a compliment. For this picture does, in fact, tell a story.
When this image came up in the Random Voting Booth I had a pretty good idea that it was yours. As always it has that little something extra.
The image is very simple and yet speaks volumes.
I can't say enough about it; it's just one of those images that is both beautiful and perfect.
Good job my friend.
You have a highly distinguished style JoJo! I almost always recognize your work! THis is another excellent work from you! I love the way you slip into these places...and seem not to even disturb one molecule....a spector behind the lens, silently stealing time forever!
