WIlliamsburg, Virginia, USA. Robert Carter was a very wealthy and influential person in Virginia. When the House of Burgesses was in session, most attendees stayed at inns, or rooming houses. Several of the wealthiest built houses in Williamsburg for their comfort while in town. Carter, in addition to a house in Williamsburg, had an office building immediately adjacent to the governor's palace. (The palace's brick border wall is visible to the right.) The jerkin head roof line is a feature of this building.
