Thad, I've read all the suggestions above, but to me no one has provided you with a proper answer. I can't give a solution either. So an intriguing capture to me, that will probably cost me my night rest because of thinking, ☺ .

People are like cameras--sometimes they lose focus.
It is against a garden trellis and I think it may be part of a hatched butterfly chrysalis/cocoon - an extreme close up

It was fun to read the varied guesses for this image. A few came close. It is the reflection of the porch lattice in the water of a leaf-shaped birdbath. Thanks for viewing - and guessing.
