The Jean Hasbrouck House (New Paltz, NY) is 300 years old and has an interesting history, The wall seen on the upper right is an original portion of a house built in the 1690s by Jean Hasbrouck, along with the brick remnants of its chimney stack. In 1721, his son built an impressive house expansion; with a center hallway and a large roof, the Dutch-architecture home was a mansion in its day. In the 1780s, there were 'modernization' changes, including this access to the cellar. An outlet covering was added at some later date. Rebuilt in the early-mid 1900s, it has decayed. But, plans are in place to restore the outlet in the spring. (The rest of the house is in beautiful condition.) This is one of two of my ancestral homes on Huguenot Street, representing the two brothers who were among the original twelve to found the town of New Paltz. I am president of the family association that funds the restoration projects on the two houses, including this outlet restoration. To me, this image symbolizes the state of Caedes today. Not aging well - yet with a planned restoration, the luster can be brought back. Online, there is a lot of competition for photographers' attention. Hopefully, Caedes can capture more of that market. There are some wonderful photographers on this site.
