Cromwell, Connecticut, USA. Some number of years ago, we planted a few varieties of asiatic lilies in our gardens, then spent the following summers in a futile fight with red lily beetles. The nasty things noshed on leaves, then left eggs from which larvae ete even more and left behind a black slime. Yet, somehow the root systems survived and the lilies tried again each year. This spring, I applied a solution on the soil that prevented the little buggers (more polite than the term I typically use for them) from emerging, leaving us with beautiful plants and perfect blooms. Here is a yellow bloom with water droplets from a recent light rain. The backdrop is a red dogwood bush and a neighbor's fence. Enjoy!
