Wow, all of that wood drifted there? Pretty amazing. I just finished uploading a b&w photo with two people in it, strange coincidence :). Well done on this one!
Thank you guys. Wood is the most abundant thing to wash up here. Pieces of boats also show up and glass floats from Japan on occasion. I cropped this way to get the proper composition with the two people roughly following the golden rule of thirds. There was a lot of sky to this shot as well which I felt was unimportant blank space. I also cropped slightly off the left to give the image stronger leading lines. And finally I cropped off the bottom to remove the major foot tracks to give the image a little privacy. Mainly, I wanted to show this as a print more than a desktop:-) Thank you for asking Tony, I had to put into words what my eye does automatically;-)
Excellent! The composition, the contrast, the hazy sky. I love the missing footprints. Noticed that right off. The size of the overall image really draws you in, looking at the details. Well done, Mayne!
Hi Darryl, this is truly a mood setter, gives rise to much thinking, as vast as the ocean! Large bodies of water have always mesmerized me, excited me and frightened me all at the same time. I even delight in Michigan's spledid great lakes and spent many yrs. at their shorelines!! This is, of course very well done! My big 10's are offered to you with pleasure! Sincerely, Marilyn
just out of curiosity? where on the west coast is this? Vancouver island? it almost looks like one of the beaches near Tofino. I really like this shot, and I think your crops really did enhance the effectiveness and mood of the photo.
It makes for a very striking desktop Darryl, I can tell you that, tho' just for personal prefence I wish it had been cropped a tad less. But that's me. It's a beautiful, striking ,image, certainly deserving of the 10 I gave it. : )
What a lovely capture Darryl! Excellent mood set by this one. Great shadows and depth, it looks like the type of place to enjoy a wonderful walk with someone close and then find that warm fire and drink to finish off the day.
I can't even begin to describe how awesome this capture is...suffice it to say that I think it's most excellent in every respect, a most wonderful piece of photography!
Great cropping, great use of B&W, and the dissarray of the logs makes an average beach scene something special. Great shot, and congrats, this one's my background for the week!
this is one of the most powerful images I have ever seen. wow. The fram really does wonders here as well as the B&W. 10/10 and goin straight in my favorites!
I very much like this photo......I especially think it was wise to frame it within a large expanse as this creates a greater sense of intimacy to the characters within (my opinion....do not mean to put words into your head/heart!) A favorite of mine......
i havent been through your gallery in much too long.....4 pages worth.....you're a posting machine! i am again astounded at the quality, you have so many dramatic, inspiring photos, and live in a very beautiful place. i commented on this cuz i think its the best. this deserves to be printed like 10x30 lol, everything is perfect. i've been on vancouver island once, and i remember scenes like this although i didnt have my camera back then. im just surprised there isnt any footprints behind the two people, thats the only thing that could improve this masterpiece 10
I'm uploading my photography on deviantart.com as well so you'll start seeing some of my same stuff on that site aswell. If I think people like it enough, i might buy a subscription and sell my artwork on it.
What a killer pic...I love the centering idea, with the black background...and whatever effect you used... I don't know why it doesn't look like just black and white, but more of a mix between that and sephia tone, but whatever the case it works awesome. Nice shot :)
The cropping and creation of a pano is what pulled my attention to it when I just now saw it as a featured image on the home page. A real stunner and you're right, it appears more of an art print this way (and it IS art) than just another photo. It's been here 4-1/2 years and I've never seen it before. A testament to the volume of images available on Caedes. Into my favs immediately and I'm sending the URL to my best friend here who loves b&w, not knowing if she's seen it before. I know she'll like it as much as I do. Thanks for sharing it, if only belatedly.
