Great Canadian Beaver

Castor canadensis...a superior engineer of the animal kingdom. One of the few mammals that changes its environment to suit its tastes. The other is the human...any more? Shot taken in Elk Island National Park, Alberta, Canada. This was a time to camoflage myself as the beaver (counted 8 in total) were quite entertaining and approachable. The camo might have concealed me from the other two-legged visitors which decided to stop by when they saw me. As the people stopped the beaver stopped. Lesson learned;-)

A well executed capture Darryl - and thanks for the interesting narrative. This fellow is a true busy beaver! Very industrious creature on the go. You have caught him in motion which is very nice. I like how there's lighting around him which helps him to stand out in this photo. The foreground branches
lead us to the main subject, who has one of the limbs in his jaws. The water has nice rust colours and pretty ripples. Nice details showing his heavy wet fur coat which is rust coloured, similiar to the water. Super job on this image and thanks for showing off this Canadian worker :^>

Oh, that's a great capture, Darryl. I like the rich t9ones of it's fur and thewetness accentuates it all. His front feel and claws are so clear as they curl over the wood stick. Excellent.

A great shot of a sneaky and shy little creature. I have never seen the pelt colours like this. And I love the front claws(?).

Magnificent Darryl! Do tell me, is that Mr. Beaver's teeth I see or claws? I know they have tremendously strong teeth, but those babies are scary if that is them! I love the wet fur and the 'stop action' shot here.......it adds so much interest to the image. I bet you had a lot of fun watching these furry friends of yours working away while you were eavesdropping on their conversations :)
Good colors, high quality, great clarity and the composition couldn't be more perfect!
Thank you so much for sharing this with me ;=)

It's not the branch he is chewing on that keeps us wondering, it's the size of the DAM he's build that's not in the photo, lol. Nice capture Darryl!

What an amazing capture, Daryl - you must be pleased with it! It looks like a photo from a magazine. Nice that you captured it working too. Often shots of beavers show them in a posture more like a squirrel, instead of the work-driven animal they are! Very nice!!
