History of the original castle Castle the Vrieselhof thanks name to Jan van Vriesele, a nobleman from Kontich who bought out ground around 1300 24 bunders (24 ha) with house or farm. Philips, duke or Burgundy, gave in 1457 admission to Matheeus of stone mounts laathof (type lower court) to form to its chivalrous court. Can we decide from that he let convert the farm to a court? In 1553 Costen van Halmale, became son of Willem, the new owner. He served Karel V as a knight under emperor, that here on hunting came. Also Hendrik van Halmale, knight and old-mayor of Antwerp stayed here. The castle served Outrement under Charles d’ among other things as refuse for the fathers Augustinians then their convent in 1797, to be closed. In 1818 it was also let as a local constabulary barracks. After the first world war. Approximately identical rebuild resulted in the current castle. In 1938, Xavier succeeded its father. As from his dead the Vrieselhof remained undivided under the widow and children, so its sold in 1974 it to the province Antwerp.

Quite a magnificent home. Sure wouldn't want to heat the place, today. Thank you for the history, Michel.
