A terrible tragedy Doug. I was watching the football match between Germany and France when two loud explosions could be heard. A fitting image for this terrible day.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
Our flags have been at half mast ever since it happened. For those commenters who are struggling to get a grasp on reasoning through this, one need realize that as is often the case, history is repeating itself. America and the allies, coming from a position of democracy, consideration of others beliefs, the rights of all peoples and genders, and a desire for compromise, found itself challenged by a moral code, close akin to brainwashing of an entire nation... Germany's Nazi ideal and Japan's Bushido. It took 6 years of a world war and 60 million lives to bring some sort of reason back into being, but the religious extremists we are facing now are unfortunately presenting us with a concept of right and wrong just as alien and opposite to ours as was that of our antagonists 75 years ago. The consternation and confusion is the same. The threat is the same. I know this isn't something many people want to hear, preferring to stay blinded in their safe world of social media and all the modern amenities they now enjoy. Our predecessors understood that they were at war, and I have understood it, implicitly, since that bright Tuesday morning in 2001. We all need to realize this isn't something that's going to go away anytime soon and certainly not on it's own. We mourn for our losses and those of our friends and we, as the Brits say, carry on. May God, by whatever name we each call him, keep us safe. As an American, a father and grandfather, a veteran, a lover of peace, and a despiser of bullies, I thank you for the reminder, Doug.
