Before I begin, I'll say I really like the oranges and magentas here. nice going.
Per your request, I'll try to provide you with a few pointers. You said you're new to photography, so for this image,I'll stick to basic stuff.
Right off the bat, I'll say you should straighten out your horizon. Next, unless you absolutely want to include whatever is in the foreground, sacrifice it. Crop up a little bit,so that the nice black silhouette of the rock frames your shot, but doesn't overwhelms it.
Now, since we've already established that the rocks are a silhouette, shoot for the sunlight. A nice high shutter speed, like 1/1600 minimum (or higher), combined with an ISO of 100 should do nicely.
Now, even though you're shoot FOR the sun, don't point and meter directly AT the sun. Try for a really bright spot near it, for more even color and light levels. Not to mention the fact that you'll kill your chip, and your eyes.
Now. Here comes a crucial ingredient. Experiment! Don't settle for one shot, even if it looks "okay". Fool with the shutter speed a bit, and aperture (if you feel comfortable doing so) and most importantly, don't make final decisions based on your camera's screen. Trust me here...
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
Love the colors but a better crop might help to grab what you are really proud to share. If you can, take at least 3 different aperture settings and/or different focus points.
Sunsets don't wait on you so practice as often as you can and share more of your excellent visions with us.
