I took this one today, with natural (back) lighting and a black cardboard backdrop. Processing was done in the Gimp (crop, levels, and cloning out a little petal that was out of place). Hope you like it!
Very nice, especially the use of negative space. It's a smidgen away from perfection though. The lightest parts are too bright for my taste but I've learnt over the years I have a different standard on that point then most. (So you need not take notice of my remark, really.) A more serious point to rais is that I would have like to see a little deeper field of depth (not by much, I'm all for short field of depth), but enough to create a defined plane of focus. Now most parts of the image is slightly out of focus. (I guess it's much a question of what part that gets the most attention, and what parts you feel should get attention. I'm usually looking for a clearly defined center of flowers (stamen and pistils) as I find it a natural place to put the focal plane.) Some might want to aim for a soft look like this though, so I'm not saying you need to change anything really. ;) I'm just putting to words what goes through my mind as I view the piece.
Thanks everyone for your nice comments :)
It makes me really happy so see people like this one.
(Klas, I agree that I shot it a bit too open, so it's not as sharp as it probably should... but well... :))
Jättesnygg bild Martin=) The fact that one flower is a different colour than the rest makes it a bit more interesting.I also like that the background is black!
Hi Martin! What a wonderfully delightful image this is...I love the white tulips and the single orange one. It balances the whole image. The green of the leaves add reality and softness. I like the softer focus myself. It seems so much more spring-like to me :)
Maybe a bit more depth of field as Klas mentioned, but not too much, I like photographs that are unique and make a statement and this one does without being obviously "wrong". I have it set as my desktop and have downloaded it into my favorites folder on my hard drive so I can run it on my screensaver slideshow1 Thank you for posting it. :~)
P.S. I love your creativity when it comes to backgrounds...good job!
Hi Martin. This is a fabulous picture. The colors and clarity are superb and against the black background it's just outstanding. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Hi Martin,
Wonderful shot, very cute. Control brightness and use the background for highlight your main subject that is a very successful experiment. Hard work and great product. Well-done.
