I found This Interesting Site while I was looking for more information about the Mt St Helens blast. When I realized just how much force and how deep the hot mud was that covered the earth, I changed my mind about how it seems that Mother Nature is dragging her feet in this area. Parts of trees and still intact trunks are strewn around the area. It was a powerful experience that I don't think I"ll ever forget. :)PJ

The angle and the blue sky suggests there is hope beyond the horizon. Sounds like it had quite the effect on you PJ. Looks like a piece of driftwood on top of a mountain. The ridge resembles the spine of a animal and it looks like hairs standing up on its back. Very thought provoking post. I think I will sit on the ridge and ponder.

Good post Peej

Fabulous detail and what blue color in that sky! I like the angle on the slope as well. I'm sure it had to be an awesome experience. Going to check out your link.

I remember it very clearly PJ, the images of the smoke and ash spewing from St Helens in 1980. I guess nature isn't dragging its feet when you think on cosmic timescales - 30 years is a lot to us but nothing to the earth. Maybe it's a reminder of how insignificant we are.... I like how you've shot this on the diagonal and that deep blue sky.

I agree with what Nigel said way /\ there somewhere. 30 years is a long time for us, but nothing to the Earth itself. I love this thought provoking capture and the composition you discovered to make this truly unique.

While you are recalling the destruction of the 1980 blast, I'm recalling the awesome sunsets that summer and again in the summer of 1994, when Mount Pinatubo exploded. It's almost like nature was fighting against global warming as the temperatures dropped on the winter and summers of 1981 and 1995.

Amazing little blue marble we live on.

Love that weathered stump against the azure sky cotton candy cloud. Kudos.

The simplicity of your image makes a powerful statement on the ever-present immensity of this kind of 'natural' catastrophe... I remember viewing the snow-crowned Mt. St. Helens from my dormitory window at Pacific University in Oregon (my freshman year), and I remember when this happened, how the entire side of the mountain blew out... it literally rocked the world.
