Don't know how I missed this one the first time around but here is another great shot taken by the ISS crew last year of Mt.Etna erupting.

It's hard to believe that a destructive power like these volcanoes are vital to the survival of our earth, and that it is theorized to have started our atmosphere in Earth's infancy! Thanks for sharing this image, really interesting.

wow.... awsome. this will be my wallpaper for quite some time. i live in canada but i was travelling in italy and was on mnt etna just a couple days before it erupted. infact we werent able to make it the whole way up the road because lava was blocking the way. it was quite an experience. about 2 days later we were we were reading in a paper about the eruption. how crazy that was!
