Taken last night with a Canon EOS 20D w/EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens and a Canon Extender EF 2X II. RAW shot was converted using PhaseOne's (frankly brilliant) Capture One Pro software.
Bit out of range for the flashgun :-) It's a bit noisy and slightly over sharp but I had to take a relatively quick shot as even on a heavy duty tripod and using a remote shutter release - that lens vibrates quite considerably when it's being used at full stretch...
The lens and extender has, however, picked out a lot of detail including the cratered edges around the rim of the shot.
yeah, i just took a few moon pictures myself, and i noticed i need the shutter all the way up to about 1/500 to get it dim enough, so i didnt get too much shake, even though i have a lousy tripod
Very nice detail...I can't wait until you get piggyback tracking setup going. I actually found a way to take pictures through my Celestion and my first one got me very excited. Bravo...a self made space image. I'm off to find out more about Capture One Pro.
neither can I! - my little Meade reflector is only a 350mm optic so unless I put in some magnifying barlow eyepieces it's seriously outgunned by the Canon lens.
Did you use digital zoom? The fuzziness of the rim of the moon makes it seem so. Otherwise it's a brilliant shot! I wish my digital could zoom in enough to take something like this.
No - see the description - its taken with an EOS 20D with a 400mm lens extended to 800mm - it's fuzzy a little because its ( a ) a quick exposure and ( b ) it's a quarter of a million miles away :-)
Great zoom on that camera, and well done with not getting any camera shake. I love the detail you've captured - you could look at this picture a million times and still spot something new every time. Incredible quality, and a very sucsessful. Fantastic!
Excelent shot of the moon (LUNA), I've been trying to get one shot of it...and nothing. But U really have it very well done. COngratulations. Maybe u can give some tips how to get my shot of that. :) My Gallery
Don't you just love L series lenses' sharpness?
This looks amazing, even using the teleconverter there's no meaningful loss of sharpness arround the edges.
The noise isn't a big problem with the small sizes.
What was the shutter speed for this one?
No Sig, Just, I want to say "Thank You" to all of the talented photographers for giving me the most beautiful desktops and screensavers I could ever imagine. The artistry here is breathtaking.
Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of Yahweh, "He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust."
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day;
6 nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you.....
