This young Broad-leaved Maple was growing out of the face of a rock wall in the Columbia National Scenic Area. This type of maple always turns yellow in the fall and not red. I like the contrast of light and dark, soft and hard. It makes a dramatic statement, "Life Will Find a Way".

It's just trying to show off what it's going to be one day, but the full grown tree will never be any more beautiful than it is right now. Wonderful find on that forbidding rock face.

What a great desktop ! I'm in to the autumn theme right now ( well duh ! ) & I love the contrast, soft colorful leaves against the hard dark glistening rock. Just beautiful. Thanks !
