About two blocks from my home, this beautiful sunrise gave birth to a new day. It was a particularly good day as I caught my limit of Small Mouth Bass before Nine AM. ----------- Are the boarders around the edges distracting? I don't know if it works or not. As I shoot 35mm if you crop and resize the image, it loses some of its impact, so I decided to stick to the original on a black background. Also with the black edges on a vertical image, it gives you the room to put your program icons into the black and have no impact on the image itself.

This is an absolutely stunning photo Michael! Just beautiful. I prefer the vertical layout on pictures like this with the black borders. I agree with the desktop icons not obstructing the view of the photo. I also like to be able to see a whole photo and there is almost always a definate loss of view when cropped as opposed to put into a desktop size image. I'm not one to find the borders distracting, I prefer them, gives the photo a "postcard" type look! Great job on this stunning photo! 10 and fav's again.

Very pretty. Love the soft clouds and the beautiful colors. I think the lines are fine in vertical photos. I used them in my "Rippled Acer" as well and they seemed to work. Another great shot and well done!

This is a great shot and deserves more comments / better index than it is getting. I really like the perspective, lighting and composition. The sky and reflections are in wonderful balance and the colors are very delicate. Folks on Caedes seem to prefer horizontals to verticals, but this shot is fabulous just the way you posted it.

This is the best sunset I've seen on Caedes in a while! I particularly like the bridge in the background. Kudos - a 10/10 from me.

Michael, in response to your query, I've set Home Sweet Home as my desktop background. I'll live with it for a few days and let you know how I end up feeling about the vertical format and the black spaces on either side. I have a lot of icons and use a 19 inch crt, so it should be a good test. As I said before though, this image seems "naturally" a vertical to me, and I can't see how it could have been nearly as good a composition in landscape. Glad to see the c-index has climbed up to better territory.

Absolutely excellent shot Michael -- you absolutely never see vertical oriented photos on Caedes, even though I'd say most photographers shoot quite a good percentage of them. I can't tell you enough how perfectly this photo is framed.

In any case -- what I find distracting is *not* the black border -- I was talking about the thin line you put around the actual image. If you just left it out I think it'd be better. By all means do not crop the image! This photo was made for the vertical format. Same with your other 35mm shots in horizontal format -- the black on the top and bottom are fine, but the thin white line you use to delimit that area is what I find distracting.

Hello Michael...I think of you shooting this fantastic sunrise, wow..I dont get to see many of those at all...the way the clouds are formed here are fantastic...such depth to this. I had not seen this photo before...I love the butter yellow here and all the almost liquid looking colours. I didnt realize you live near water.Well in one day you will be having your surgery....and I wish you well, I am sure it will all work out good..I will be thinking of you....verena

Well, everybody else has about said it all. As for the borders, I prefer photos without them.

If this beautiful scene occured only two blocks from your home- DON"T MOVE!

Brilliant shot. I think the balance between keeping the original shape and adding the border works well. But my focus is on the detail and colours in your image. Which are all very good. Ther vertical perspective highlights the cloud shapes perfectly, as well.
