This fall shot was taken in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, this last fall. The "Larch" trees are of the pine family but they turn yellow and loose their needles until the next spring.

Beautiful image Mike. Were these larch trees growing in sort of wetland or marsh land? I think these are what I refer to as Tamarack. They were very valuable to early settlers for use as fence posts as they resisted rot very well. They sure look ghostly when they drop their needles and are left beside the neighbouring evergreens. Makes you wonder if they are dead trees. Thanks for bringing back the memories;-)

I just picture you turning around and everywhere you look you find ... a classic scene at the optimum time ... a photo king midas

I seem to remember "Monty Python" doing a bit about "The Larch" but I won't try and duplicate it here.

Ah! Larix - I sure do love it when people take pictures of trees which I am able to identify (but then again, I am a gigantic dork)! This is a striking shot which caught my eye the second I saw the thumbnail! A great capture. 10/10 and in my favorites.

Your timing is perfect here with the undergrowth in shade and only the tops lit like beacons.

Awesome photo, sir!
But why, why o why, is that border there? Really makes it nonfunctional as a wallpaper :(

Hey, Michael, gotta say I like this one for the perspective, sun angle and the really bright yellows. Not often you see a "Fall Color" scene that is all conifers but still brightly colored. Forgot to ask you before...are you shooting negatives or slides?

Every time I see an image of yours, it never fails to take my breath away. You have made photography into art for me, equivalent to the great Medieval master artists in my book. You are now officially my favorite photographer. 10 out of 10 for this picture.
