WOW - I am amazed that no one has commented. I think what this means is that even though you are sad, you can find the happiness somewhere inside if you choose to do so. Great works and high marks from me....10/10.
Hmmmmm. I posted a comment here but it didn't come up...I'll try one more time. This is a very creative, thought provoking image. While it COULD mean, as Shane suggests, that we can find inner happiness even when we're sad, It could ALSO mean that our culture conditions us to "put on a happy face" and smile through our tears even when we're anything BUT happy...??? High marks from me. "Have a Nice Day!" <G>

Quite an interesting image. As for the meaning... I think it may mean that we don't want anyone to see our sorrow, so we smile through our tears and put on a emotional mask. I also like dainbramage's idea. 10/10 and a fav.
Wow that is ONE very original creative idea! Love the thought provoking thing..its kind of like going to an art gallery and sitting and contemplating what meaning a painting is to us. Its very well done...I like it...it sure makes ones think twice about tears and smiles...very nice!!
Going barefoot is the gentlest way of walking, and can symbolize a way of living. It's the feeling of enjoyment beneath our toes...it removes the barrier between us and nature...(AdeleCoombs,Barefoot

(*creeps in slowly*) .. While I do think the idea and concept are EXCELLENT ... I think it needs more work to make it blend/melt together tighter
for example .. I don't feel the smiley is quite faceing the right angle ... and the color intensity of the smiley is too strong
None of this means I could have turned out a better image ... I SUXXORS at this stuff .. I just know how to string together keystrokes in biting criticism ... and then slink away
I'm not too sure I like it ... the whole eye looking real but the happy face being a cartoon kind of thing ... butperhaps its saying that the tears are genuine but the smile is fake I'm not too sure ... it's interesting and provokes many thoughts about the symbolism ...
I enjoyed just scrolling down and reading everyones interpretations. It's a thought provoking and uneasy image. Would make a real conversation starter on the desktop.
Oh my this is gorgeous! So walmart doesnt just make me sad. That was a joke. It seems like there tears of joy, yet science has proven that there are no such things as tears of joy, but we cry when we think of what 'could of happened/would have happened'
so as bioframe says jeepers creepers
I absolutley LOVE this. I must agree with Keifer ^up^ there, maybe it could have been more pulled together, but regardless... And the tears, *speachless*
This is a great image and it conjures up my memory of a super wal-mart being built just outside of my small town. It destoryed our two mom and pop grocers and many small businesses went under shortly after its opening.
First comment I made on the site, and I felt this was a good one to start it off. I really like this piece, and to me the meaning is, look through the tears to happiness.
