In fact the English did cut many of the forests in Scotland down for use in their castles. The Scottish and English countrysides used to have many oak tree forests, but the English liked oak for their castles, thus there are many fewer trees in Scotland than there were 600 or 700 years ago. But also many parts of the British Isles don't have many trees to begin with. It's kind of like driving accross Kansas except greener with groves of trees scattered around.
Yep, we do have lots of these old red phone boxes dotted around the highlands, don't know where this shot is taken though.
The reason we don't have too many old established trees such as oak here in UK is because of all the wars in the past (when old warships were made of wood!)
awesome pic. The scenery is amazing and the phone booth makes a good foreground subject. The only reason this isn't a ten is because it's a little grainy.
No way - the first thing I thought of was Dr. Who!!! There are still fans out there? I admit, part of my reason for downloading was the reminder of Dr. Who . . . but I gotta give you credit too - it is a very nice shot.
wow. 1. that's a cool random phone booth; it adds to the image.
2. cool image to begin with (grainy, but OK), love the hills. 3. yes, i want to go and live there... thanks.
This is a nice image. I hoped I'd be able to tell where it is but I can't. Many of Scotlands trees were felled for castle building but many more were felled to be used as timbers in ships. English ships, to be precise. Most of what you see nowadays are commercial plantations of firs, very boring. The original Caledonian forest is making a comeback though, slowly but surely. As is Scotland as a whole.
