I've always liked the people you've introduced us to. They are what makes the places you visit live and breathe. This grand looking woman is no exception. I only hope I'm doing as well and as much then.

Nice image Pierre. She looks so happy doing the simpler things in life. Turned out well for a argentic photo;-)

This is such an amazing portrait. Can you imagine the stories she must have to tell? Really great shot, Pierre! Thanks for sharing it with us!

You're right, dreamer. The 'people' gallery is my preferred. Very hard to take such an image which can interest a good public, without being a personal photo.
Thanks guys for your nice words :-)

Nice shot, Pierre. She looks very genuine, and the way you took the shot really makes it look "en media res", or in the middle of the road as it were. I've taken a lot of people photos, but I keep running into two problems 1) Mine always come out better in black and white, and 2) It's embarressing to shoot someone's photo without their permission. How do you overcome the second one? Did you ask this woman?

Not really. We were resting in the shadow and this kind woman went towards us. When she saw my camera, she smiled. It was like an invitation.
You know, most of people are proud to be taken on a photo.
It's like a quick contract you sign with him. He knows that you want to make a beautiful photo and he knows that he is a part of it...

You must fight this embarressing feeling. If not, you will never take good portraits.
Also, I ever take portraits with my 200 mm lens. Thus, the person knows he is on the photo, but he doesn't know that he is the principal subject... ;-)
Thanks for your constructive message, Regmar!

This is such a great portrait. This woman has years of stories that I am sure she has to tell to others. This picture really stands out to me. I love it. I am very glad that you shared :)

Hi Elena. We were walking in a very nice little portuguese village and this woman was coming back from the fields with some branches for the fire. She saw my camera and smiled. That's all! Thanks for your comment :-)
