I don't know why this lovely creature allowed me to get close enough to it to use a macro lens, but it did. This photo is another from my weekend spent on retreat where I shot The Oaks of St Joseph and Slim (and a few more!). Maybe it was the inner peace or some such tripe that let me get so close, but I figured the opportunity wouldn't come again, so I shot it.

Very nice Regmar. I like the diagonal sweep of the wings it gives the image better more compositional elements than if the wings were straight across, either horizontally or vertically. It really makes the image snap. 10 by me. (Nice subject too).

Great shot. Agree with Michael, the horizontal line of the dead reeds makes a good counterpoint to the angle of the butterfly. The small piece of green at top-left is a nice contrast to the colours of the butterfly. A very well balanced piece. Kudos.

Hm..this is the first times I've seen this photo of yours..How lovely it is, and yes, that little critter allowed you to be close..maybe because somehow it sensed your inner peace...from the whole feeling of taking such a photo..They are so amazing..the colours..how they can hide from preditators..it's just a beautiful shot! You are very fortunate to have got that one.

I like how the butterfly is on a slight diagonal. That adds a dynamic quality to the whole shot. Crisp detail and perfect exposure. Not easy to get these right.

This photo just emanates serenity! What an outstanding shot. So clear, so beautiful in every way. I love the framing....the blues match the blues on the butterfly perfectly and compliment them. Thanks for sharing this with us!

wing patterns look like they were painted.. i must say, these colours are gorgeous.. all those concentric circles look like eyes and the most lower ones seem like they're watching me :) and talk about the fabulous details.. it's truly a great macro shot.

the open composition with diagonal axes is a full guess, it seems like the butterfly wants to escape and fly away from the image. i agree with accipiter, it adds a certain dynamic quality.

and the framing had been done nicely, i like these blue shades which fit perfectly with the rest of the image. all in all, it's a work you should be very proud of. thank you for sharing this wonderful image with us!

have a nice day :)

Thanks for the photo. It is in my favorites folder. The Buckeye is one of my favorite butterflies. I managed to get a few shots of them back when I was into tromping the fields for great opportunities.

Everything came together to make this a near-perfect iamge reg...the background enhances the beauty of the butterfly. The butterlfy itself is gorgoues. The color, qualtiy, clarity and composition are near perfect. The framing you did enhances this image about 200%. Now, if only it were framed on mywall, I would be happier :)
Oh, I suspect you are right about being able to get close enought to use your macro due to your inner peace. There are no 'accidents' in my belief system. Only Perfect Order!!!!
This is going into my faovrites folder as well as ,my screensaver slideshow folder. Thansk for posting this beauty. Thsi trip into your gallery is well worth my time......:~)

beautiful butterfly on a great texture. the color of the border is chosen very good, it brings out the color of the butterfly and sets a contrast to the brown tones better than the orange would. the green plant is also great. acctually a great picture overall!
