Her name was Maria Francesca Saltapelli, and she died in 1882 on Dec 22. Her husband had this built to show his love for her, and it still draws emotion from me over 100 years later. I can only imagine how awful the holiday season must have been for him. It is another product of that day in the cemetery, and I have never benefitted so much from skipping a day of work.

Normally I would not like an image as sad as that ... But then I do not have to be so normal all the time !!! Very emotional and beautiful in its way. I would hesitate though before putting it on a desktop. Now.

What I love about this image is the DOF and the dark dull colors which speak loud to the theme. Wonderfull.

What a peaceful lovely image. It reminds me of an image that one would expect to find in a families book of remembrance.
10x10 and in my favorites.

wonderful and suffering piece, its dramatic, the soft dark colors and the unfocus background, it pulling the principal subject (woman) to speak in silent voice to the pain and hurst for her husband (still alive)....wow, how many stories we dont know about the others, each one line to walk on the street is writting already a page on our book...thanks for skipped your work that day, it was worth..

She was indeed beloved, the portrait is so finely detailed that you feel as if you've just met her today. The DOF beautifully seperates the two pieces of this monument without missing a single detail.

A cemetery is place steeped with history and sadness. There is a story for every grave marker. You captured the darkness that seems to go with this story. Ho wloving of her husband to still show his love after her death is such a public way. December 22 is a date that is very personal to me. Maybe one day I will share the story with you. It is a sad day for me also. Ver good emotional piece. Well done reg..thanks ;!)

What a fabulous capture, the composition and slight blurring of the background really bring the two major elements of this photo together perfectly. Striking work.

Cheers.........
