One of the amazing creatures that are found in the Karoo is the Koringkriek (directly translated wheat cricket - but you would not find any natural wheat growing in the Karoo). I have no idea what it's common English name is but my dictionary tells me its proper name is Eugaster longipes

My ohh my what an ugly little fellow this is.
Never see anything like it before.
It sure looks impressive with this angle you shot it in.
I am curious how big this fellow really is.
Anyway...very nice and detailed shot.

What amazing detail and what a freaky looking creature. According to wikipedia, it's related to katydids.

Very crablike and sort of alien. It's a good shot of this unusual critter. Nice even, green backdrop shows him off well.

The 'cool' quotient for this one is off the scale for me.

Very, very good detail and clarity on this one. Subject is not in the direct center, and the depth (DOF) of the image is great.

This one really did 'jump' out at me from your gallery :P. Amazing creature, amazing shot. Nice work ... once again.

Top quality work Roelf. My favourite element of your photo is the low perspective. But the detail is also excellent. Great work.
