The deep maroon of her head scarf and brown cloak certainly fit her culture, Rob. Good work on this. I did download the largest Tiff size, the 15.9 MB version, and the only tattoo I think I'm seeing on her are faint dots on her chin. At first I took those to be soil. The only other added feature of her face, besides the stud in her nostril, is the look of enforced aging from living a hard life. There are containers behind her, on the far right, with round white shapes in them that, having looked through Matson photos of Tiberias, I have come to realize are fruit being sold in the Tiberias market, possibly small melons or even lemons or oranges. (In this linked photo, look to the far right foreground and compare the round white shapes in the wooden boxes to what you see here in the far right background.) Tiberias is a city in the middle of the west shore of the Sea of Galilee, in Israel. Also, the two items in front of her may be utensils used in making "kookoo", a Persian dish of shredded potato pancakes. I conclude that she and the two individuals behind her are sitting in the Tiberias market, there to make whatever living is possible. Between 1930 and 1946, Swede, Gastgifvar Eric Matson, and his American-born wife, Edith (Yantiss, from Kansas), captured thousands of images that depicted everyday life in the Middle East from their vocations to their style of dress to their religious rituals and cultural traditions.

Rob, think it's wise to notice that the original B&W image was taken in the time that Israel wasn't an own state. Israel became independent in 1948. I've been there a number of times (the last time in 1992). I also visited a number of settlements on the Israeli side (west side) of the Sea of Galilee. At that time the atmosphere was already completely different from what can be seen on the original photo. Certainly in this time, these kinds of scenes will no longer occur in this area. The perfect way of coloring adds to the 'wishful thinking' thoughts.
Perfectly done (per usual), my friend.
