Mentzelia oligosperma, also called Stickleaf or Chickenthief, is a fairly common woody shrub with lovely three inch wide flowers. Shot at the local arboretum.
I agree about the colour too, it's very close to that of the California Poppy. Which are in bloom right now and are a slightly redder shade of orange.
Also, I like to post my shots at 16:9 and try to fill the space with diagonal elements. Two flowers can give that effect without making the shot cluttered or busy.
