Shot at about 2X with the Canon MP-E65 macro lens and a ring flash. I like the intimacy this superb lens gives to close-ups. It really feels like a bugs-eye point of view.
Wow! Brilliant close-up you have here. You are almost eye-to-eye with this little feller. I envy you that camera you have, as this is a wonderful example of what it can do. Well done! Ann
And yes, it literally is eye-to-eye. At 2X magnification, the front lens is about 3-4 inches from the focus point (the face). Most insects won't tolerate anything that close and it's challenging to sneak up on them. Bees are fearless and single-minded though, so getting right in their faces is doable. And no, I don't get stung or have any worries about it. Honeybees aren't aggressive normally, but their occasional curiosity might be misinterpreted by some people.
That is an impressive lens Russ. Canon has some really superior lens. They are pricey though. You are achieving some really good results. Yes those bees normally don't pay any attention to you when they are busy doing what they do.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
The impact of bees on our economy & lives is enormous, but most people regard them as a pest. That's too bad, because in the wild they're very non-threatening and fun, but challenging, to shoot. My own success rate is about 5-10%, if that.
So is a good comment all about the praise or is constructive criticism a good comment. all I see is people praising each other. I would would like real comments that help me with my work. That help me take better pictures. Perhaps camera settings, setup, etc.. Your thoughts on this?
