This bee was shot at 1X with the Canon MP-E65 macro lens and a ring flash. I took the photo at the end of March 2013, but had a hard time deciding if it was worth finishing, so it just languished in a to do folder. For all the folks who think bees are as cool as I do.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Thank you, everyone. I really appreciate the nice comments. We're all probably old enough here to remember a great 1961 Ray Harryhausen movie called Mysterious Island. One of the coolest scenes involves a man and woman being chased into a giant beehive by a truck-sized bee. Then they're sealed up in a pupa chamber by it. That giant bee was so well stop-motion animated that it looked real, at least to my young eyes. And maybe that's why I like getting up close and personal with them now, there's always a reason.

Not to mention, Russ, that without honey bees, a large portion of the agricultural products we consume wouldn't be around. I remember that movie, a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I remember the Union officer and the woman got out of there by melting the wax with a small fire they started... good thing the screenwriter provided them with kindling. ;oP The fact that we can see individual hairs on his back and legs, the network of his wings, and tiny dots of pollen sticking to him, makes this one definitely worth finishing.
