I was struggling to find a good place for a sunset but stumbled upon this view from Waldridge Fell near where I live, I quite liked the light falling on the trees from the setting sun.

And now, a reading from Purmusic 1:1-4; Acts 1:1.. ahem ...

First, some qualifiers to what is to follow.

My monitor is a CRT. Colour is set at 9300K, which, despite recommendations to setting it to that of 6500K for photography work ... works best to my eyes. (No monitor calibration hardware here.)

That said..

Very nice shot, as always. Handled the technical side of things quite well, given the challenging lighting conditions.

Most pleasant to view and makes for a great desktop.

Caveats?

Had to download and mess around with your photo here, to get a better idea (from my perspective and monitor) as to how the foreground grasses worked in the overall composition.

End result? My humble opinion?

Lil' too much. Found my eyes, arrested somewhat by this element.

So..

For your creative consideration.

Employing Phil's; aka philcUK tutorial ""Faking the HDR thing..." ... came up with this:

"Sundown over Waldridge Fell" - Shadow/Highlights Adjusted

Which, and again, in my humble opinion and to my eyes ... provided an assist on a couple of fronts. That of bringing out some more details in the shadows, as well as, mitigating the prominence of the area of the captured sun setting.

Or..

This:

"Sundown over Waldridge Fell" - Shadow/Highlights Adjusted & Crop

/\ My own personal fav.

Liked the way the crop brought me more 'into the scene'. Foreground is not as dominant an element now. And though it put the horizon at the midpoint ... can accept the tradeoff.

That said..

Hope you don't mind my epistle above, and that of me mucking about with your image.

(And I am sure you will be pleased to know that I typed allll of this out, while cooking my pasta ... and did not end up with a glutinous mass of noodles.

:oP )

Thanks for sharing this one with us, caught my eyes in and amongst the new images.. as your work seems to always do. :o)

Wow...now how can I compete with the comment purmusic did?

All that I have to say is simple and short. Personally, I love this photo with the soft golden tone over the entire scene. Overall, it's a warming and beautiful shot.

Really liking the re-work Les, I sometimes check the image out on my Ipad it seems to get the colour balance some where near, appreciate you taking the time to play about with my picture I do like what you have done here. Fore ground looks more in balance. And thanks to all for the encouraging comments.

Cheers

Beautiful lighting with warm evening colors. Definite peaceful summertime mood seems to evade the vast landscape. I seldom get to see vistas here. I do like the crop Les made, though I might choose the lighting somewhere between that and the original. Thank you for sharing it.
