He's about 5" of shell, front to back, and 4" across. Just a youngster, and my first foundling, this year.
You might notice, the lengthe of his nails, on the right front leg, folded tight against his body, between the shells.
A great capture Doug. I have rescued turtles from the roads & highways also, but they were "snapping turtles'"..... handle with care. I love the turtles expression... I am sure it is so ever grateful for you saving him / her. A very nice close-up.
Magnificent capture. Its a very unique angle and the super composition.
Turtles are among the vanishing creatures today and here in Sri Lanka we do a lot to save them. But there is a big demand for turtle shell made jewellery and for turtle eggs + meat. So the struggle between the good guys and the bad guys goes on. During the tsunami days the turtle killing went for a hike due to lack of security on the shore line.
Both shots are very nice, Doug, but I especially like this one where you can see his beady little eyes and an almost quizzical expression on his face. Nice cropping to emphasize his horizontal nature. Keep up the good work.

Not until the creation and maintenance of decent conditions of life for all men are recognized and accepted as a common obligation of all men . . . shall we . . . be able to speak of mankind as civilized.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world...those who want things to happen, those that make things happen, and those who just wonder what the hell happened!
