A B/W of a beaver dam just off the road where I live. The Township has to come in every year and open up a small section of it so it doesn't flood the adjacent highway along the left border.
Wow Doug this is really beautiful . Great tones and I love the composition and the title.
I have posted this story before , not sure if you saw it .
There's a creek not to far from me ... it is a protected waterway because of the Salmon . Last summer two Beaver families showed up , they had been reintroduced to the area a few years prior . Everyone was very excited to see them ... well almost everyone ! Since they are great construction workers they went right to work constructing their dam . Since the Creek is protected ... The Army Corps Of Engineers kept a very close eye of these little workers . When it appeared a few of their structures could harm the coho salmon the Corps Of Engineers arrived to discourage the dam building and destroyed a couple of the dams ... only to find the next day they had been reconstructed by the Beaver night shift . This went on for weeks . The concern was their dams would hurt the coho salmon population in the creek . The Beavers won the battle against the Army Corps Of Engineers and the salmon population actually flourished . Happy ending to all involved except the defeated Corps Of Engineers .... who joked with the local newspapers that this was one of the toughest battles they have ever been in !
That's quite the beaver dam & so well constructed ... I guess that's where the saying 'busy as a beaver' comes from. I like the starkness of this scene & looks great in B & W. Excellent capture, Doug.
Doug - Ward and June always worried about the Beaver. So too, do the townspeople here, freeing up enough of the waterway to negate flooding. Beautiful balance in this comp. Thad
